Ammolite Gemstone and Jewelry Production

Ammolite is rated approximately 3.5 to 4.0 on the Mohs Hardness Scale. In Perspective, Glass is about 6 and Diamonds are 10 on the Mohs scale. Ammolite is about .5 to .8mm thick when harvested from an Ammonite Fossil. After Jewelry Production, Ammolite is 8 on the Mohs Hardness scale and is approximately .1 to .3 mm thick. Ammolite is a very delicate and difficult gemstone to work with as the thin layer’s of Ammolite Gemstone can easily be lost during the transformation from Ammonite to Ammolite.
